Canada was the first country in the world to broadcast live parliamentary debates. When the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation announced it could no longer continue to co-fund the Parliamentary Channel, EastLink, in partnership with Cable companies across the country, agreed to launch and wholly fund the Cable Parliamentary Channel in the fall of 1992. Now known as CPAC - the Cable Public Affairs Channel - it is Canada's only national, bilingual 24-hour public affairs network.
Through CPAC, EastLink offers viewers throughout the Maritimes a chance to stay informed on the issues that affect them. Non-profit and non-commercial, CPAC is the only channel that delivers live and uninterrupted coverage of the House of Commons to households across Canada. Parliamentary proceedings make up about 24 per cent of CPAC's schedule, while the rest of the schedule is original public affairs programming, including the nightly current affairs program Primetime Politics and the interactive political discussion forum, Talk Politics. Additionally, CPAC offers exclusive coverage of political conferences and parliamentary committees.
CPAC also streams a live video feed on its website. You can check out CPAC's programming on the Internet at www.cpac.ca.
