How does a DVR record programs?
The DVR has a hard drive that stores programs much as your computer would store files or content. Basically, you pick the programs you want from the program guide, press record and the DVR records the corresponding program. It's that easy.
What if there is a change in the program schedule? Will my DVR know to shift the recording time/day?
No, if there are any changes in the schedule, your DVR will record whatever program is broadcast in the time you have selected.
How many hours of programming can I record with my DVR?
You can record up to 90 hours of digital programming or 20 hours of HD programming with your Eastlink DVR.
How will I know if I am running low on recording space?
A message will appear on screen to let you know that recording space is low. To see how much space is left, select 'my recordings'.
What happens when I reach my recording limit? Will the DVR start deleting programs I have recorded?
You can set your DVR to automatically delete any programs by selecting the programs to be deleted when recording space is full. The DVR will automatically erase them. Otherwise, the interactive programming guide will advise that there is insufficient storage space and you can then choose the recorded programs you prefer to delete.
I missed the start of a program and didn't set it up on my DVR. If I start recording now, will I get the whole program?
No, the DVR begins recording a current program from the time that you press the record button on the remote.
Can I actually pause/rewind a live program?
Yes, you can pause a live program and restart it when you are ready without missing a moment. You can also rewind a live event to create your own instant replay, giving you more control over your viewing experience.
How far back can I rewind the program I am watching?
Depending on the type of programming, you can rewind up to two hours of the program you are currently recording.
How far can I fast-forward a live program?
If you have used rewind or pause to view an earlier moment or scene, you can fast forward a program until you reach the current point of the broadcast. At that point, your on-screen guide will display the word 'live' to let you know that you have caught up with the program.
How long can I pause a program I am recording?
You can pause your DVR for up to two hours when recording standard definition programming, but less with an HDTV broadcast.
How is it possible that you can pause or rewind a live program?
The DVR continues recording the program you've selected. So, if you miss the beginning of a game or event, you can rewind the program and watch it, pause it, even fast-forward to the current scene or action, all while it is it is being recorded.
How do I catch up with a program if I have paused/rewound it?
Depending on the version of your remote, you can either press the button that says 'Live TV', or alternatively you can use the down arrow on your remote, or simply press the FF button until the word 'live' appears on your screen.
Can I increase the rewind/fast-forward speed?
Yes, you can increase the rewind and fast-forward speeds four-fold by pressing the REW or FF buttons up to four times. Your on-screen guide will tell you the current playback speed, allowing you to increase or decrease it as you wish.
Will my DVR cut out commercials while it records?
No, however you can fast forward through any programming while playing back a pre-recorded program.
How many times can I watch a program I've recorded with my DVR?
You can watch DVR programs as many times as you like without any loss of picture or sound quality that you would experience with programs recorded on VHS.
Can I record one show while watching another?
It depends on what type of DVR you have. Dual Tuner DVR's do allow customers to record a program on one channel while watching another with the SWAP function. Customers with Single Tuner DVR's do not have the abililty to watch programming on one channel while recording on another. However, you can watch a recorded program while recording on another channel.
How many programs can I schedule?
You can select as many programs as you want so long as you have enough available recording space, and you haven't selected two shows airing at the same time.
Can I record Eastlink's Digital Music channels?
Yes, you can record Eastlink's Digital Music channels but DVR technology currently does not allow you to pause, rewind or fast-forward digital music you're recorded.
What happens if I change the channel while recording?
A message will appear on the screen to confirm that you want to change the channel and stop the recording.
Can I record and watch HDTV programs with my DVR?
Yes, if your DVR is connected to an HDTV set, you can record and watch programs in true High Definition.
Does DVR mean better picture quality for recordings?
Yes, DVR records programs in the same quality as they are broadcast and provides superior picture quality over VCRs.HDTV programs offer full digital quality picture and enhanced sound if your DVR is connected to an HDTV set and home theatre system.
Will my DVR record in Dolby Digital 5.1?
Yes, if a program is being broadcast in Dolby Digital 5.1, the DVR will record the digital audio.
Will I be able to record Viewers Choice programming?
Yes, you will be able to record your Pay-Per-View selections.
What if the program I select runs long; will my DVR know to keep recording?
For some live programs, you will need to change the record options, adjusting the start or end time to make sure you record the whole program. Please refer to your DVR guide for more information.
Will my Parental Control preferences work with programs I record on my DVR?
Yes, they will. So if you select a program that you have locked, it will record, but the sound and video will not appear as it is being recorded. To access the program during or after recording, simply enter your PIN to view it. Please note that movies with “R” rating may include content that includes sexually explicit content
How do I activate Closed Captioning for High Definition Programming?
By following these few steps, this should enable the Closed Captioning on High Definition Channels.
1. Turn on your TV
2. Have your cable box plugged in
3. Turn the power off on your cable box.
4. Press the menu button on your cable box. (A menu screen should now be visible on your TV screen)
6. Using the down curser button on the cable box move down to the Closed Captioning option
7. Press the right curser button to change Closed Captioning from disabled to enabled.
8. Now return power to your cable box by pressing the power button on your cable box (you may have to press this twice).
9. Closed Captioning should now be visible within a few minutes.
