Halifax, Nova Scotia - Volunteers who work on various local sporting, telethon and community productions are being honoured and thanked by Eastlink as part of National Volunteer Week Celebrations.
At 13 stations throughout Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, Eastlink will acknowledge the volunteers commitment by hosting pizza parties and lunches.
"Our volunteers are pivotal to all of our productions. They provide essential support to our employees and it provides them with a great opportunity to learn more about the television and broadcasting industry," said Michael Smith, Director of Eastlink Television. "We think it is important to take time to say thanks and let them know the contribution they make to community programming in the Maritimes."
One hundred and twenty Eastlink Volunteers provide over 5,500 hours of contribution to our productions annually. Through its various fundraisers, Eastlink works with an additional 900 volunteers to deliver the best of Maritime communities.
Mark MacDonald, who has volunteered with Eastlink Television's Charlottetown station for 10 years said, "Volunteering with Eastlink Television has allowed me to learn so much about the fascinating television production industry. It is such a wonderful experience and I have gained so much knowledge about all aspects of producing a television program. It is definitely a very rewarding activity."
Throughout the year, Eastlink acknowledges the work of its volunteers but it is especially important during National Volunteer Week, which is a week set aside to promote appreciation of volunteerism in Canada.
Eastlink recently sponsored the Nova Scotia Provincial Volunteer Awards where over 65 Nova Scotians where honoured for their contribution to communities. Eastlink Television will broadcast the awards ceremony on May 8 at 8 p.m. throughout Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
