Canadian Blood Services honours Partner for Life Eastlink for their dedication to helping educate the public in saving lives

Halifax, Nova Scotia - Eastlink is being presented with a Partners for Life award by Canadian Blood Services Atlantic Region. The award is being presented at the Donor Awards Ceremony being held Thursday evening in Dartmouth.

The Partners for Life Program is a Canadian Blood Services National program. There are many ways in which organizations can help ensure a stable blood inventory for all hospital patients and the Partners for Life program encompasses many of them. For example, Eastlink has been instrumental in partnering with Canadian Blood Services to ensure the importance of donating blood around the December Holidays is top of mind with residents of Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. With the support of media partners like Eastlink, Canadian Blood Services Atlantic Region has ensured strong collections the last few years during the challenging holiday season.

Over the last two years, Eastlink dedicated resources to educate Maritimers about Canadian Blood Services, helped raise awareness of the importance of becoming a regular blood donor, and encouraged eligible members of the public to donate to ensure hospital patients receive the blood and blood products they require, even during the holidays.

"Eastlink Television is pleased to use our network to speak to thousands of Maritimers and raise awareness about the importance of giving the gift of life," said Michael Smith, Director of Eastlink Television. "The need for blood has no boundaries and we know through increasing awareness, blood will be there in the event Maritimers need it.

In 2004 and 2005, Eastlink employees, community partners and individuals helped meet and surpass Canadian Blood Services holiday blood donor clinic goals. Eastlink Blood Donor Days helped Maritime clinics exceed their targets by 32 per cent. Eastlink Television also broadcast specialized programming through its flagship television show, Eastlink Magazine, to educate viewers on the importance of donating blood and broadcasts Canadian Blood Service public services announcements throughout the year.
