Eastlink Granted Licence to Offer Video On Demand Content

Halifax, Nova Scotia - The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) annouced it has approved Eastlink's request to operate a regional video-on-demand service (VOD). The service will be delivered over Eastlink's two-way broadband network.

Eastlink's Director of Marketing Ian Lezama indicated this licence allows Eastlink to enhance its position as a leading choice for entertainment services in the Maritimes. "With this license approval, Eastlink will be able to expand our OnDemand offering to include a wider range of programming." He added, "Video on demand content is available exclusively on cable and its functionality cannot be matched by satellite providers. Our broadband network has the capability and the capacity to deliver the future of entertainment services to customers today."

Eastlink is currently negotiating with a number of major movie studios with the objective of adding feature films to our OnDemand line up. This product category is expected to see tremendous growth over the next few years as customers experience the convenience of watching what they want when they want with Eastlink OnDemand.

In April 2006, Eastlink launched the first Eastlink OnDemand service, The Movie Network OnDemand. Lezama says customer response to launch of The Movie Network has been tremendous. "Use of the service has been higher than expected. Customers tell us it has changed how they watch and think about their TMN viewing."

The Movie Network OnDemand has no schedule constraints, giving viewers immediate access to exclusive HBO and Showtime content, Hollywood hit movies, Canadian feature films and The Movie Network's own original drama series. The service's functionality allows viewers the ability to pause, stop rewind and fast-forward programs.
