New and Improved Eastlink Television Studio Generates Community Interest

New Glasgow, Nova Scotia - Eastlink Television officially introduced its new television studio to the public tonight during a Grand Opening event. The community-based station was devastated by fire in 2005. A pivotal part of the community, the station was relocated to its new Park Street location, which features a new studio and full edit suite.

Northumberland Regional High School Teacher Stephen Turner brought his Film and Video class to the studio so they could gather some first-hand experience. "Access to advanced TV production studios in our local community will help serve the needs of our students as we seek opportunities to explore the TV and Film industry at the local and provincial levels. Eastlink Television in New Glasgow serves both the community at large and educational opportunities for our students in the local high schools," said Turner.

The event was attended by approximately 200 students and community members. Ward 1 Councillor Norman Paris joined Michael Smith, Director of Eastlink Television for the ribbon cutting ceremony. Attendees were given tours of the building, the mobile production truck, and provided demonstrations in the edit suite. Guests were also invited to attempt a mock weather forecast using a green screen. Community members not able to attend the event were still able to catch a glimpse of the new studio, when the local program "In Focus" aired LIVE during the event.

"We are very pleased with our new television studio in New Glasgow," said Michael Smith, Director of Eastlink Television. "The fire at our previous location was a devastating loss to the community, but it provided us with an opportunity for growth. As a result, we have a new facility the community can be very proud of and enjoy."

The grand opening may be over, but the opportunity to drop by or volunteer with Eastlink Television, is always available.
