The Eastlink
Story

Driven by a passion for innovation, Eastlink has grown from a local cable provider to a national telecommunications company.

It started with blueberries

More than 40 years ago, the Bragg family, known for its success in the wild blueberry business, made a decision to enter the cable television business with one of the first cable licenses granted by the CRTC.

Led by John Bragg, the company has always been driven by a spirit of innovation, creativity and entrepreneurialism. The first three decades brought rapid expansion and growth throughout Nova Scotia and P.E.I. culminating with the creation of Eastlink in the late 90s.

That was also when Eastlink became the first cable company in Canada to offer local telephone service, bringing much-needed competition and choice to phone customers.

Eastlink Story

Investing in Fibre

Eastlink continued to expand, investing in a fibre network that would bring high speed Internet service to communities, large and small, across the Maritimes and quickly became recognized as a world-class provider of communications services.

In the early 2000s, Eastlink introduced new bundle options which allowed customers to save more by combining TV, internet and telephone services and was the first in North America to combine all services on one bill for one price.

Eastlink's commitment to innovation would continue with the introduction of TV Channel Exchange, making them the first cable company in Canada to let customers add and drop channels in real time. And WiFi Perfected soon allowed internet customers to enjoy a consistently strong and secure wifi across the entire home.

Eastlink Story

Innovation is in our DNA

The company’s spirit of innovation continued with the introduction of OnDemand TV services and an increased amount of high definition content making them a dominant video provider in its core markets.

Not long after, Eastlink brought that same creative and innovative approach to the business community and began to offer a variety of advanced services for enterprises of all sizes as well as government and public sector customers.

Despite its continued growth, Eastlink recognized the importance of expanding into other lines of business, adding what was a natural fit for the business – home security and automation (affectionately called “Winston”). Since then Eastlink's Smart Home plans have expanded to offer home automation, video monitoring and security options that allow customers to control their home from a convenient smartphone app.

Eastlink Story

Starting a New Chapter with Mobile

In 2008, Eastlink embarked on one of its most exciting expansions to date when it entered the wireless world and began offering customers cellphone service. Driven by the same spirit of entrepreneurialism, Eastlink launched its award-winning LTE wireless service in N.S. and P.E.I. in 2013. Since then, the company has successfully expanded throughout Atlantic Canada, Ontario and Alberta.

Headquartered in Nova Scotia, Eastlink employs over 1,500 people across Canada and is proud to be recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed companies.
