Charlottetown, PE – The Charlottetown Islanders kick off the 2013-2014 QMJHL season with exciting news this year. Representatives from the Islanders, the Charlottetown Civic Centre, and Eastlink announced a new partnership at Friday’s home opener, renaming the Charlottetown Civic Centre to the Eastlink Centre.
“The Charlottetown Islanders are pleased to welcome Eastlink as a partner in our effort to provide Major Junior Hockey to the City of Charlottetown and the Province of Prince Edward Island,” said Charlottetown Islanders’ President Peter MacDonald.
“Their partnership will benefit not only the Charlottetown Islanders hockey club but all users of the Eastlink Centre for years to come. We look forward to showcasing the Charlottetown Islanders on Eastlink TV to further develop our brand and bring exciting hockey to their many customers. We are pleased to partner with a company that shares our values of giving back to the community and look forward to a long and successful partnership.”
The Centre’s General Manager Dave McGrath said his organization is pleased to partner with Eastlink.
“This has been a truly collaborative effort, working with Eastlink, the Charlottetown Islanders and City of Charlottetown in developing the new name and brand of the centre,” he said. “We’re proud to be associated with a company whose roots are in the Maritimes and we look forward to a long and prosperous relationship.”
Eastlink General Manager Jeff Brown said his company is proud to deliver on its commitment to the city of Charlottetown and local sports.
“We’re honoured to help support such an integral part of Charlottetown’s community,” said Brown. “Every year, this Centre hosts many world-class events, including hockey from local favourites, the Charlottetown Islanders. We are looking forward to the exciting community events that will be hosted here.”
