Clarenville, NL (Dec. 1, 2014) – Fans attending the Clarenville Caribous and Corner Brook Royals senior hockey game were treated to a surprise announcement on Saturday night. Representatives from both the Clarenville Events Centre and Eastlink were on-hand to announce the renaming of the Centre to the Eastlink Events Centre Clarenville.
The announcement was made between the first and the second period of Saturday’s game by Eastlink’s Regional Manager Arthur Taylor and the Events Centre’s Manager, Todd Cole in front of over a thousand local hockey fans.
“We’re so proud to support what is considered to be the cornerstone of this community and the region as a whole,” said Taylor. “The Eastlink Events Centre Clarenville is a place where community members and visitors gather for special events, concerts, theatrical productions, minor hockey, figure skating and, of course, exciting hockey action from this season’s Allan Cup hosts, the Clarenville Caribous.”
Clarenville Mayor Frazer Russell said the Town is thrilled by the announcement.
“On behalf of the Town of Clarenville, I would like to congratulate both the Events Centre and Eastlink on their new partnership,” said Russell. “Together, we have an opportunity to draw more visitors to the Eastlink Events Centre Clarenville, raise the profile of Clarenville’s events, and ultimately benefit the economy of the Clarenville area.”
Eastlink TV was also on-site to televise Saturday’s Caribous game, and will be covering additional games throughout the season.
The Eastlink Events Centre Clarenville is a 1250-seat facility featuring an ice surface, arts theatre and walking track, and hosts many sports, concerts and community-oriented activities throughout the year, including the Discovery Health Care Foundation Eastlink Telethon.
