Bridgewater, Nova Scotia - Managing work and family life got easier for employees enrolled in the Eastlink Customer Care @ Home program in Bridgewater. These Customer Care Representatives won't have to worry about clearing the frost off the car on cold mornings because their offices are in their homes. Eastlink has also provided each of them with telephone and Internet services so they can have accessible, barrier-free, flexible workplaces.
Named one of Canada's 50 Best Companies to work for in 2007, Eastlink has become an employer of choice in the Maritimes. The flexible workplace has proven that they are also an employer with choice. Since it first launched in October 2006, the program has already expanded to Truro, Halifax, Annapolis Valley, and New Glasgow. The Customer Care Work @ Home program allows people who might not be able to work outside the home to secure flexible employment that will fit their individual needs. Positions created in rural communities, recruitment and hiring of the most qualified candidates, and inclusiveness are just a few examples of the mutual benefits of the program.
Donald Rankin, Eastlink's Director of Human Resources said that a key benefit of this program is creating employment opportunities in rural communities, "As we expand our business and launch our products and services in more areas, it is important that we share this growth with members of these communities by creating employment there." Rankin added, "We are a growing company and we are increasingly looking for ways we can differentiate ourselves to attract qualified candidates. This program allows individuals, who would otherwise have to travel a significant distance, to work from the comforts of their own home with access to the latest technologies to perform their job."
