Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island – Eastlink and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation had thousands of reasons to celebrate this weekend after the tremendous support for QEH/Eastlink 21-Hour Equipment Drive which was held May 24th and 25th at the Eastlink Television studio in Charlottetown.
Funds raised this year totaled over $500,000, a record amount in the QEH/Eastlink 21-Hour Equipment Drive’s 12-year history. The funds will go toward purchasing medical equipment used in the hospital’s Surgical Suites.
"We are grateful to Eastlink for giving us the opportunity to take a behind-the-scene tour of the Surgical Suites so Islanders could meet the many specialists was a highlight for us," says Barb Dunphy Gotell, Executive Director of the QEH Foundation. "Also having former patients from across the province give testimonials about the care they or a loved one received was very heartwarming. It was a great weekend for our hospital."
More than 300 volunteers played a role in the telethon's success including Eastlink employees and Eastlink Television crew and volunteers.
Bruce MacLean, Regional Manager of Eastlink Television, presented a cheque worth $7,500 on behalf of Eastlink in the final hour. During the 12 years Eastlink and the QEH have partnered together on the fundraiser Eastlink has provided more than $2 million in support to the Hospital Foundation. "We are extremely pleased with the partnership of the QEH and Eastlink Television. This year’s production was such an overwhelming success," says MacLean, "To reach a milestone of a half a million dollars in such a short period of time reflects the heart-warming generosity of Islanders."
