Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island - Eastlink Television and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) Foundation are celebrating another record-breaking fundraiser with the tremendous success of this weekend's QEH/Eastlink 21-Hour Equipment Drive. The telethon, which includes a live auction, took place at Eastlink Television's Charlottetown studio on May 23rd and 24th, raising $507,946 and exceeding this year's fundraising goal.
"The QEH/ Eastlink 21-Hour Equipment Drive was once again an exceptional weekend. For many, this is a weekend to watch Eastlink Television to enjoy great entertainment and heart-warming stories, while watching Islanders come together to raise money for a great cause, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the heart of healthcare on Prince Edward Island," says Barb Dunphy-Gotell, Executive Director, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation. "We certainly couldn't put on a show of this calibre without the wonderful partnership we have with Eastlink, their staff and volunteers."
Funds raised from this year's equipment drive will go towards the purchase of 60 new medical/surgical beds for nursing units of the hospital, including 20 for the newly announced Acute and Provincial Rehabilitation Stroke Units. The annual telethon is a cornerstone of the foundation's fundraising efforts, whose mission is to raise funds for medical equipment for the QEH.
"This weekend's QEH/Eastlink 21-Hour Equipment Drive was a roaring success and reflects the incredible generosity of our viewers, whose support makes events like this possible," says Bruce MacLean, Eastlink Television Regional Manager. "We're both excited and pleased to partner with the QEH Foundation in helping them achieve - and surpass - their fundraising goals."
In the 13 years Eastlink Television has partnered with the QEH Foundation, over $2 million has been raised in support of the foundation's fundraising efforts on Prince Edward Island. For more information on any of Eastlink Television's programming, please visit www.Eastlink.ca/eltv/
