Halifax, NS – Eastlink TV is pleased to announce the premiere of an original documentary presentation - “The Riiny Ngot Story”
Riiny Ngot is a 7’ 2” Center for the StFX University X-Men Basketball team, and is in his fourth year of a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Cecil Wright, Eastlink Sports Analyst and producer of the Riiny Ngot Story, explains that this seemingly ordinary student athlete is quite extraordinary once you hear his story.
Riiny was one of more than 20,000 Southern Sudanese children who were left on their own when their villages were attacked by military forces during the Second Sudanese Civil War. Beginning in the late 1980s, waves of orphans set out on foot in a quest for freedom. This documentary is the story of Riiny’s incredible journey to freedom.
“When I initially heard about Riiny’s story, I was amazed that a young man like him, who despite weathering such challenges, retained a cheery disposition” says Wright. “It’s hard for me to truly understand what his experience has taught him, so my hope was to enhance my own personal awareness about the Lost Boys of the Sudan. As we were completing the story, I realized the impact it would have on others. This is a very absorbing story about an outstanding young man.”
Eastlink TV’s vice president, Michael Smith says, “We’ve been involved with AUS sports for many years, and in those years we have seen many amazing athletes but never have we come across a young person with such a remarkable story of bravery and survival. We have been extremely fortunate to work with Riiny and have him share his story with us.”
“The Riiny Ngot Story” is the latest example of Eastlink TV’s passion and commitment to sharing compelling, regional stories. Other recent special presentations include “Dr. Ivar Mendez, MD: Creative in Care”, "Philip Riteman, A Survivor's Story", “Some Horse!... the Story of Somebeachsomewhere" and “Weaving the Story - A Journey of African Canadian Women in Cumberland County”.
