Sydney, Nova Scotia - Eastlink's $4.3 million dollar upgrade to its digital fiber network is nearing completion. The upgrade provides residential and business customers with the ability to choose Eastlink Telephone. Eastlink Telephone offers customers local calling and calling features for one monthly low price.
"The upgrade to our Sydney network is approximately 85 per cent complete," said Dan McKeen, Co-CEO, Eastlink. "A number of communities already have access to our telephone service including Westmount, Coxheath, downtown Sydney to name a few and the remaining upgrade areas will soon have choice in a telephone service provider."
With the expansion of Eastlink telephone into the area, it will mark the first time Cape Breton communities have enjoyed telephone competition.
"We know customers want a reliable and affordable telephone service for their home and businesses and we have answered the call for Sydney residents," said McKeen.
Upgrade construction began in the middle of May and will be completed in Winter 2006. Customers choosing to switch to Eastlink Telephone can enjoy free installation and are able to keep their existing phone number, jacks and directory listing.
